Thursday Things 07.06.17

Thursday Things 07.06.17

How was your 4th of July?! My boyfriend and I hiked up to the top of Mount Harvard. I’ll write more about that later. Until then, here are some fun things:

  • I’ve always wanted to make grilled pizza. Now that I have a grill (as of yesterday!) I think it might actually happen!
  • This snack mix looks a little odd. I’m totally into it and might make it this weekend.
  • Loving the new Imagine Dragons CD!
  • These wall mounted plants are adorable. Too bad I would probably (accidentally) kill them.
  • YES to all of these coastal drives.

My parents and sister (#fab4) fly in tomorrow night to visit for the weekend! CANNOT WAIT! Hope you have a great one.

Thursday Things… It has been a while, because, you know, life. Here I am, back for now with some fun things to share.

  • It is Popsicle Week! From Chocolate Banana Tahini Popsicles to Lemon Bar Popsicles with Shortbread Crumble to Chewy Chocolate Fudge Pops with Brownie Bits, to Toasted Coconut Mocha Bold Brew Popsicles to Strawberry Yellow Cake Pudding Pops where do you even begin?!
  • If you love working out and wine (not necessarily together) make sure to check out these tanks. I’m personally debating between “Feed Me Champagne” and “Slay Then Rose”.
  • Forest Bathing is a real thing and it’s magical.
  • This floral ice bucket is amazing.
  • I want to have a pizza party.

I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July weekend! Watch some fireworks, grill some food, eat a s’more, and wave a flag. I’ll be busy moving on Saturday, but am planning on camping and hiking a 14er or two around the 4th!

Until next time…

thursday things 11.03.16

It’s Thursdayyyyy and it finally is starting to feel like fall here in Denver. I’m done with 80-degree weather. Bring on the 50s/60s with boots and coats and sweaters and crockpots and roasted veggies and hot tea. I’m ready for it.

  • Sweet Potato Galette with Caramelized Shallots?! Yasss puhleaseee.
  • I cannot wait to watch all of these movies. ALL of them.
  • A cute song: as we ran.
  • Thoughts on Wonder Woman being the UN’s honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls?
  • What makes a friendship work.

As a fun side note, I’m just starting to work with the Brewery Running Series in here in Colorado! We have a fun run on Saturday at Stem Ciders and I’m super excited! It’ll be a nice gig to have on the side.

Are you up to anything fun this weekend?! Remember to change your clocks!

And ICYMI: Leg Strengthening Workout for Runners, Sweet Potato Toast with Mashed Avocado and Fried Eggs, and Chocolate Pumpkin Snack Cake.

Thursday Things 10.27.16

Scene from Saturday’s hike to Bear Peak.

Did everyone get their votes in? Do it now and then enjoy these things:

  • This kabocha & maple caramel baked french toast needs to happen in my kitchen this weekend.
  • This is a must listen. It gave me goosebumps.
  • I’m seriously sick of getting disappointed by boys. Seriously.
  • Have you ever felt the impostor phenomenon? I have.
  • Linger longer. Daydream. Be still. Hold hands. Laugh.

Oh! And what are you going to be for Halloween?! I’m going to be a mime!

PS – In case you missed it: Colorado Hikes: Sky Pond, Chocolate Pumpkin Snack Cake, and Chicken & Sweet Potato Noodles with Tahini Sauce.

Thursday Things 10.20.16

Heyo. After weeks and weeks of 80-degree weather it’s finally feeling a little bit like fall here in Denver. I like it.

I like these things too:

  • These winter squash pancakes with crispy sage and brown butter need to be in my life.
  • A new show for you to watch: Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party. Get ready.
  • Semi in love with metallic hair.
  • Just read The Woman in Cabin 10. It’s a little like (not a lot, but similar to) The Girl on the Train, but takes place on a cruise ship.
  • Cute Halloween costumes: DIY Circus Performers.

Have a good Thursday! <3 jenna

Thursday Things 10.13.16

Friday eve! What are your plans for the weekend? I have none. NONE! It’s the first time in about 9 weeks where my agenda has nothing on it. I’m hoping for a hike and some time to read (this book) and maybe brunch. It’s been awhile since I’ve brunched.

But anyways, here are some fun things I’ve found this week:

  • These no bake pumpkin spice latte bites. I made them. You should too.
  • A little about locker room talk.
  • Important tips: how to tie a blanket scarf.
  • Look for these gems when thrift shopping.
  • This marble wallpaper, I’m obsessed!

And in case you’re curious, I survived the Portland Marathon! As I mentioned last week, I ran it with my friend Lindsey “for fun”. And you know what?! It was fun! I didn’t stress about what my Garmin was telling me. Instead I was relaxed and just enjoyed the experience. Lindsey was great to run it with – we chatted the whole way, clapped/danced for all the sideline entertainment, and took a quick selfie on the St. Johns Bridge. She was so encouraging throughout the whole marathon. I don’t think I could have survived without her! Ok, I probably could have, but it would have been way slower and way less fun.

For the minimal training that I did for this marathon (in comparison to my previous ones) I set my goal time for 4:30 and snuck in at 4:26. I think I got what I deserved, but we must’ve been ignoring the tangents, because my Garmin told me I ran 26.85 miles. Overall I felt pretty good. My hip flexors were starting to feel it at about mile 6, but man oh man, that sea level oxygen sure did help!

I told myself I wasn’t going to run another marathon, but this positive experience in Portland may have changed my mind? Idk. We shall see!

Besides running I was able to explore a little bit of Portland – VooDoo Doughnuts, Powell’s Books, Stumptown Coffee, Brewery Running Series at Base Camp Brewing, and a visit with family that I haven’t seen if far too long.

Here’s some pics:

My open heart surgery was 7 years ago and it’s a My open heart surgery was 7 years ago and it’s an anniversary I will never not celebrate.

I carried a lot of trauma with me for a long time. I was nervous for every hike, every workout, religiously checking my heart rate, wondering if this would be the time my heart fails me again. Very dramatic, I know. But I kept at it, doing these things I love to do, working through the fear. Now the intrusive thoughts are few and far between.

So here I am 7 years later, a stronger person both physically and mentally, hanging out at the top of a mountain with my babies after a nice, challenging hike. It’s all I really want.

I’m so grateful for this life and for the people who continue to support me ❤️
