Thursday Things 10.13.16

Thursday Things 10.13.16

Friday eve! What are your plans for the weekend? I have none. NONE! It’s the first time in about 9 weeks where my agenda has nothing on it. I’m hoping for a hike and some time to read (this book) and maybe brunch. It’s been awhile since I’ve brunched.

But anyways, here are some fun things I’ve found this week:

  • These no bake pumpkin spice latte bites. I made them. You should too.
  • A little about locker room talk.
  • Important tips: how to tie a blanket scarf.
  • Look for these gems when thrift shopping.
  • This marble wallpaper, I’m obsessed!

And in case you’re curious, I survived the Portland Marathon! As I mentioned last week, I ran it with my friend Lindsey “for fun”. And you know what?! It was fun! I didn’t stress about what my Garmin was telling me. Instead I was relaxed and just enjoyed the experience. Lindsey was great to run it with – we chatted the whole way, clapped/danced for all the sideline entertainment, and took a quick selfie on the St. Johns Bridge. She was so encouraging throughout the whole marathon. I don’t think I could have survived without her! Ok, I probably could have, but it would have been way slower and way less fun.

For the minimal training that I did for this marathon (in comparison to my previous ones) I set my goal time for 4:30 and snuck in at 4:26. I think I got what I deserved, but we must’ve been ignoring the tangents, because my Garmin told me I ran 26.85 miles. Overall I felt pretty good. My hip flexors were starting to feel it at about mile 6, but man oh man, that sea level oxygen sure did help!

I told myself I wasn’t going to run another marathon, but this positive experience in Portland may have changed my mind? Idk. We shall see!

Besides running I was able to explore a little bit of Portland – VooDoo Doughnuts, Powell’s Books, Stumptown Coffee, Brewery Running Series at Base Camp Brewing, and a visit with family that I haven’t seen if far too long.

Here’s some pics:

My open heart surgery was 7 years ago and it’s a My open heart surgery was 7 years ago and it’s an anniversary I will never not celebrate.

I carried a lot of trauma with me for a long time. I was nervous for every hike, every workout, religiously checking my heart rate, wondering if this would be the time my heart fails me again. Very dramatic, I know. But I kept at it, doing these things I love to do, working through the fear. Now the intrusive thoughts are few and far between.

So here I am 7 years later, a stronger person both physically and mentally, hanging out at the top of a mountain with my babies after a nice, challenging hike. It’s all I really want.

I’m so grateful for this life and for the people who continue to support me ❤️
